Universal Geneve SA is a Swiss luxury watch company that was founded in 1894 as Universal Watch. Since its inception, they have produced complete watches with in-house movements, and during the 20th century, distributed many notable and important timepieces. Along with neighboring Geneva companies, Audemars Piguet, Girard-Perregaux, Patek Philippe and Rolex, Universal is internationally regarded for its style of craftsmanship and quality manufacturing. Universal was also the innovator of the first watch with chronographic functions, circa 1917. Needless to say, it is a wonderful company with a great product. The watch we have on offer here is one of their classic beauties from the late 1940s. The design and style is so perfect, it looks right in step with our current aesthetic. The watch case is executed in 18k solid gold with a 14k solid gold mesh band with an articulated "brick pattern" for a very upscale look. It measures 28 mm in width (not including the crown), by 30 mm lug to lug, by 9 mm thick (including the crystal). This elegant square case houses an equally elegant 17 jewel movement that our head watchmaker has ticking along just like it did back in its day. The silvered dial is to die for with its minimalist bar markers and Arabic numerals at three cardinal points (12, 3, & 9). We are always on the hunt for Universal watches but they are few and far between. So, if this one appeals to you and you are looking for an elegant dress watch, then this may be the one for you. Our one-year warranty for parts and labor will allow you to buy this one with complete confidence.
