At the turn of the last century many jewelers wanted their own brand to offer for their clientele, but watchmaking is not an easy task. So, they contracted with the best companies they could find to produce watches that they could then market as their own. This is one of those watches, called "jeweler's contract watches" in the trade. Because they are special order watches, they generally are of a very high grade so as to bolster the reputation of a particular retailer. It has a high quality, Swiss, seventeen jewel, nickel movement with a micrometric regulator that operates on a snail cam. The winding wheels are frosted and there is a "single finger" bridge for the escape wheel. It is as clean as a whistle and setting, winding, and keeping time just as it did circa 1900. It is housed in a solid gold, warrantied U.S. assay, 18 size, drum lid case measuring 49 mm in diameter, by 76 mm in height (including the bow), by 13 mm thick. It is about as nice as they get. This was, no doubt, someone's prize possession that was only worn for special occasions. The drum lids exhibit engine turning and there is a central unengraved cartouche on the front lid that awaits your initials. The case middle and edges of the lids, front and back, are beautifully adorned with foliate engraving that serves to accentuate the overall design. Opening the front lid, you can gaze at the wonderful double-sunk porcelain dial that sports a red 5-minute track just above the Arabic numerals. The watch is lever set at the 4:30 position and the blued steel hands complete the ensemble. If you have always hankered for a solid gold pocket watch that steals the show, then this may be the one for you. Our one-year warranty for parts and labor will allow you to buy with confidence. It's a beauty!
